Success!
Reports are coming in from many folks with compliments on the successful reunion this past weekend. Huge thanks go out to Beverly Fuller Slaughter and her cohorts on the reunion committee.

Several people expressed interest in keeping the website going, so I'll be doing that. We'll remove some things, like directions to the reunion and all that and then make it a place for photos from the weekend. If we continue to get traffic and interest, we can leave it running indefinitely. No need to pay classmates.com a dime, we can do it here.

A note from Beverly:

Hello Classmates!

WOW!! What a weekend! For those of you that attended, THANK YOU! YOU are the reason the committee worked so hard to put this weekend together. I did not see anyone NOT having a good time! For those of you who could not attend all I can say is WOW you missed a weekend to be talked about for months!

We will have a 25 year reunion so keep us updated on email, address or phone numbers.

Once again the weekend was a huge success!!! Thanks for attending!

Hit the comments link and tell us something good.

The Daily Seninel lays it all out:

As far as rivalries go, Lufkin's Abe Martin Stadium is the place to be Friday night.

The Nacogdoches Dragons take the trip south on Hwy. 59 to battle the Lufkin Panthers in the 89th edition of the Angelina River rivalry.

According to the latest edition of Texas Monthly, the Lufkin-Nacogdoches rivalry is the best in Texas.

But the Dragons have a way to go to get even with the Panthers, who lead the series 61-21-6.

The two teams are currently on opposite ends of the spectrum.

The Panthers are off to a roaring 2-0 start after a 37-14 win over Dallas Kimball.

The Dragons are searching for answers after being shut out 14-0 by Dayton.

Nacogdoches will need to adjust early against a Lufkin team that is ranked No. 2 in Class 5A in the Associated Press poll. The Panthers are also ranked No. 4 in the country by USA Today and No. 7 in Sports Illustrated.

Football Game Changes

Hello everyone!

I am sorry but I have bad news. The Alumni office contacted me today. There has been a change with the football schedule and the Lufkin vs. Nacogdoches game is now the homecoming game, therefore they can not hold any reserve seats for us on the visitors side. Nacogdoches has requested ALL reserve seats for that game.

You can purchase general admission tickets on your own the day of the game by standing in line. (Visitor side) I have heard this line starts forming as early as 3:30ish. This is what happens when the football team gets really BIG! This will be a sold out game. The home side is SOLD OUT!

If you have not registered PLEASE DO NOT send in Panther Ticket money with your form! If you will email me if you purchased a game tickets, I will do one of two things. I will refund your money. (I plan to cash a check and give you cash when you check in for the reunion) OR You can let the ticket price be a donation to the scholarship fund we have to donate in honor of the Class of 1986. Just let me know what you would like.

The Friday night mixer is still on! The committee will provide soft drinks and snacks! BYOB, for anything stronger.

T-SHIRTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 1st!

If you have any questions, please email me: bslaughter@cox-internet.com

See you September 15th!

This article in the LDN notes that Panter tickets are a hot cmmodity:

People who have season tickets for Lufkin Panthers home football games can pick them up beginning Monday. People who don't have them, but want them, may be out of luck.

With the Panthers ranked in several preseason polls as Texas' best high school football team, interest in tickets may be at an all-time high. There are only 3,501 season tickets, according to ticket manager Barbara Davis, and all of those belong to someone.

Reunion Weekend's football game will be played against the Nacogdoches Dragons.

Welcome Back Class of '86!
The Committee is very excited about the 20 Year Reunion! We have been working so hard to make this a memorable weekend for the whole class. Yolanda Malone called a meeting while she was in Lufkin visiting family June 2005. What a surprise that was! Already time for the "Remix of 86." WOW! Time flies!

Do you remember "The Prep?" The Cabbage Patch?" Seeing the Panther Pride prancing around in their white Keds sneakers? Or those twirlers in those black, sparkly bodysuits on Friday nights? This little mini-reunion between Yolanda, myself, Nancy Holmes Ramsey, Buddy Timme and Troy Tiemann was a walk down memory lane and we set the groundwork for a grand reunion!

With all the excitement the committee expanded in December 2005 to Kim Seay Childress, Adrienne Thomas Collins, Dana Cooper, Michael Douglas, Laura Hobbs Gates, Yolanda Malone, Evelyn Malone, Melissa Mason, Rae-Leane Fulford Pogue, Nancy Holmes Ramsey, Beth Rushing, Beverly Fuller Slaughter, Angela Hobbs Spencer, Troy Teimann, Buddy Timme, Colleen Howard, and Sandra McFarland White. Richard Morgan happened along in the Spring and put up the website. Everyone is scattered across the US but with email we have been in the party-planning mode for months!

We all have worked very hard to plan this so we all have a great time with as little work for the committee members as possible. WE want to have a great time as well! This reunion is a lot of work but we have enjoyed every moment of it.

On behalf of the committee we cannot wait to see YOU! We are just a few weeks away from strolling down memory lane as the Lufkin High School Class of 1986 hosts its 20-Year Reunion. If you have not made plans and registered, there's still time. Even if high school was not your thing, come on, you will have a BLAST!
